Respiratory Therapist - Adult Critical Care
Location: Columbus, OH

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Weekdays and some weekends, 3x12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night) — full holiday availability required
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $57 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care and ventilator management for adult critical care and emergency department patients
- Manage and troubleshoot GE 860 ventilators and other mechanical ventilation systems
- Perform airway management including intubation support, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Assess and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) to guide therapy and weaning
- Deliver and titrate oxygen therapies including HFNC, CPAP, BiPAP, and nebulized treatments
- Administer respiratory-related medications and monitor patient responses
- Document all care accurately in Epic and maintain patient ratio expectations (typical ratio 1:4)
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans
- Support unit needs including occasional float to University Hospital per facility discretion
- Adhere to infection control policies and facility vaccination guidelines
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required
- Ohio state respiratory license preferred (OH state license)
- 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience (adult critical care or ED experience preferred)
- Epic charting experience required
- Experience with GE ventilators (GE 860 preferred)
- Current BLS and ACLS recommended; CRT preferred
- Ability to work night shifts, some weekends, and full holiday availability
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required
- Ability to float to other facility locations when requested
Education
- High School Diploma (listed)
- RRT credential (Registered Respiratory Therapist) — required
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management: settings, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, weaning strategies
- Noninvasive support: BiPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Airway management: suctioning, oral/nasal airway placement, tracheostomy care
- Nebulizer systems and delivery devices (handheld, T-piece, trach collar)
- Medication administration for respiratory agents (albuterol, racemic epi, inhaled therapies)
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) to guide clinical decisions
- Pulmonary hygiene, sputum collection, and pulmonary assessment skills
- Strong documentation skills in Epic and effective interdisciplinary communication
- Ability to adapt quickly in a large academic medical center setting
