Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (High Risk)

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, typically 3 shifts per week (3x12), schedule posted every 6 weeks; every other weekend and holidays as needed (day shift)
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $64 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity labor and delivery nursing care for complex obstetrical patients with skill and calm
- Function as Baby Nurse during deliveries and provide immediate newborn care until transfer to postpartum
- Circulate for C-section procedures, ensuring sterile technique, safety, and efficient workflow
- Perform electronic fetal monitoring and recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Administer and monitor high-risk medications such as magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, anticoagulants, and oxytocin
- Support postpartum care including hemorrhage management, cesarean recovery, coupled care, and lactation support
- Start and maintain IVs, assist with procedures (forceps/vacuum, tubal ligation), and manage emergency interventions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, and social services to optimize patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Current RN license (ability to practice in Washington required; active compact license honored at Swedish facilities)
- Minimum 3 years high-acuity labor and delivery experience required; 5 years high-risk experience highly preferred (no exceptions for less than 3 years without manager review)
- Current BLS and NRP required; ACLS and AWHONN (Intermediate/Advanced) strongly preferred
- Previous supervisory references (current supervisory references required) and proof of required certifications at submission
- Proven neonatal resuscitation/Newborn care skills including APGAR, Vitamin K, eye care, ID/security banding
- Experience circulating for C-sections and serving as Baby Nurse (newborn assessment and stabilization)
- Travel nursing experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers unless manager approves
- Must pass clinical review and provide current NURSYS documentation
Knowledge & Skills
- Epic charting experience and comfort with electronic fetal monitoring hard-stop workflows
- High-risk obstetrical assessment and management, including antepartum triage and postpartum complications
- Neonatal assessment, resuscitation, radiant warmer use, and cord sample collection
- Medication administration: magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, heparin, oxytocin, terbutaline, anticoagulants, antihypertensives
- Surgical circulation skills for C-sections and recovery care
- Starting and maintaining IVs and phlebotomy
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Couplet care, breastfeeding/lactation support, wound and perineal care
