Roles & Responsibilities

• Support and communicate laboratory initiatives and philosophies across the team
• Collect, process, and receive specimens (blood, urine, fecal, body fluids) for analysis across clinical lab departments
• Evaluate and troubleshoot specimen collection and processing issues for patients of all ages
• Participate in evaluation and implementation of new techniques and procedures, including cost and personnel considerations
• Write and revise technical procedures to keep the lab current and compliant
• Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations, and correct problems using scientific principles
• Analyze quality control data, make informed judgments, and take action to maintain accuracy and precision
• Answer inquiries about test results, methodology, specificity/sensitivity, and factors that influence results
• Monitor instrument indicators and temperature logs to ensure proper operation and specimen integrity
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills through continuous learning and practice

Qualifications

• CLS or MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent required
• New MT graduates must pass the certification exam within 6 months of the employment start date
• Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate's degree accepted for grandfathered personnel
• Hands-on experience with specimen collection, processing, and clinical laboratory testing (experience level as specified by facility)
• Comfort with quality control (QC), instrument monitoring, and documenting procedures
