Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled labor and delivery nursing care for mothers and newborns with compassion and clinical precision
• Deliver couplet care: support both mother and baby together through immediate postpartum and nursery needs
• Perform intermediate/advanced fetal monitoring and interpret tracings to guide safe delivery decisions
• Support the nursery — assess and stabilize newborns and coordinate care with pediatric resources
• Step into charge nurse responsibilities when assigned, leading the team and ensuring smooth shift operations
• Float to assist other departments as needed, bringing flexibility and teamwork to the rural hospital setting
• Document care clearly and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii RN License (required) — you must already have an active HI license
• Proven Labor & Delivery experience (must have L&D background)
• Experience with nursery care and couplet care (mother + baby)
• Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring competency (required)
• Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and averaging ~72-80 hours per two weeks
• Charge nurse experience preferred; ability to lead and mentor on shift
• Willingness to float to support other departments when needed in a rural hospital environment

Education

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure — current Hawaii RN License required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical skills in labor & delivery and neonatal care
• Proficiency in intermediate/advanced electronic fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Couplet care best practices and postpartum/newborn assessments
• Ability to triage, prioritize, and act decisively in urgent obstetric situations
• Effective communication, teamwork, and leadership when serving as charge nurse
• Adaptability to a rural community hospital setting and varied shift demands
