Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based oncology nursing care to a 24-bed unit, supporting surgical and med-surg oncology patients
• Administer chemotherapy safely and monitor patients for adverse reactions (Chemo Certification preferred)
• Perform thorough patient assessments, develop care plans, and adjust interventions to meet individual needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate surgical and post-op care
• Document care accurately in Cerner EMR and communicate changes clearly during handoffs
• Assist with procedures typical to the unit (e.g., occasional pelvic exams, echo, thoracentesis) and escalate concerns as needed
• Maintain safe patient ratios (typically 1:4 or 1:5) while prioritizing patient safety and experience

Qualifications

• Active RN license OR CNA license (as applicable) in good standing
• BLS certification required
• Chemo Certification preferred (nice-to-have)
• Minimum 2 years clinical experience (experience in oncology or med-surg strongly preferred)
• Comfortable using Cerner EMR and standard unit equipment
• Team-player attitude and willingness to learn and adapt in a busy unit

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing fundamentals and safe chemotherapy handling
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record
• Post-operative and med-surg patient management
• Familiarity with procedures such as thoracentesis and echo
• Ability to manage 1:4 or 1:5 patient ratios while prioritizing safety
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills
