Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition continuously and deliver high-quality stepdown care for adults with complex medical and cardiac issues
• Monitor telemetry and interpret strips to detect arrhythmias and acute changes
• Titrate drips safely (heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, nitroglycerin, insulin) and manage IV medication administration
• Provide ventilatory support when needed (BiPAP, high-flow devices) and collaborate with respiratory therapy
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and create timely, accurate documentation in EPIC
• Coordinate care with CNAs, charge nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure smooth admissions/discharges
• Lead bedside reporting, hourly rounding and patient education to improve outcomes and patient experience
• Respond to emergencies (STEMI, stroke protocols) and participate in rapid, team-based interventions

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit for Nebraska assignment)
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care/stepdown or telemetry nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS certification required
• Comfortable titrating drips and administering IV medications safely
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Must meet facility radius rule (within 50 miles) — driver’s license required at submission
• Willingness to complete orientation requirements and pass the orientation skills exam (90% pass threshold)
• Team player with a positive, patient-centered attitude

Education

• Active RN licensure
• BSN preferred
• Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip interpretation
• Stepdown/PCU nursing workflows and nurse:patient ratios (1:4-5 typical)
• Cardiac care (STEMI, CHF, chest pain) and stroke care protocols
• IV medication administration and drip titration experience
• Acute patient assessment and clinical decision-making
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Ventilatory support knowledge (BiPAP, high-flow/O2 devices)
• Collaboration with CNAs, RTs and interdisciplinary teams
