Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field and surgical instruments before and during procedures
- Assist surgeons and the perioperative team by passing instruments and anticipating needs
- Perform accurate instrument, sponge and needle counts to ensure patient safety
- Inspect and maintain surgical equipment and supplies to support efficient case flow
- Follow strict infection control and safety protocols to protect patients and staff
- Document procedures and supply usage clearly and promptly
- Participate in orientation and team training to maintain high standards of care
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (certificate or diploma)
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtainable
- Prior operating room experience preferred but new grads who completed clinicals are encouraged to apply
- Ability to pass standard background check and drug screening
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced OR environment
Education
- Certificate or diploma from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of sterile technique and operating room protocols
- Familiarity with surgical instruments and procedural sets
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy during counts and documentation
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and assist proactively
- Basic equipment troubleshooting and sterilization awareness
- Teamwork, reliability, and patient-centered care focus
