Roles & Responsibilities

• Administer safe, competent respiratory care per physician orders across age groups (neonatal through geriatric)
• Initiate, maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation and make appropriate ventilator adjustments
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpret results to guide care
• Provide effective airway management including bag-mask ventilation and suctioning; assist with intubation when needed
• Monitor cardiopulmonary equipment, troubleshoot problems, and ensure proper function
• Document all respiratory care procedures accurately and maintain up-to-date patient records
• Verify and execute respiratory care physician orders and provide accurate shift reports
• Participate in patient care rounds, department in-services, and performance improvement activities
• Precept and assist in orientation/training of new staff and students
• Follow infection control, PPE, safety, and hospital policies to maintain a safe environment

Qualifications

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program (NBRC guidelines)
• BLS certification (to be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• NRP certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• Minimum one year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and employee health requirements
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Able to attend required trainings and maintain certifications

Education

• Graduate of a COARC-approved Respiratory Care Program (required)
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation monitoring, initiation, and management
• Arterial blood gas draws and interpretation
• Airway management, suctioning, and intubation assistance
• Patient assessment, documentation, and therapeutic intervention planning
• Infection control and PPE compliance
• Pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics (EKG, Holter, event monitor, stress testing)
• Flow-volume and pressure-volume curve interpretation
• Troubleshooting cardiopulmonary equipment and devices
• Experience caring for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
• Strong communication skills for effective handoffs and interdisciplinary collaboration
