Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients in the Step-Down Unit
• Assess and monitor patients' clinical status, including telemetry and hemodynamics
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
• Document care, assessments, and interventions clearly and timely in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Escalate changes in patient condition promptly and participate in rapid response when needed

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN eligible
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or required per facility policy
• Experience in SDU/telemetry or progressive care preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour clinical shifts and manage multiple priorities
• Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
• Ongoing professional development and certifications encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Cardiac and respiratory assessment for step-down patients
• IV therapy, medication administration, and infusion management
• Critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid recognition of clinical change
• Effective patient and family education techniques
• Competent electronic medical record documentation
