Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, high-acuity care to Step-Down Unit patients while maintaining safety and dignity
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry, hemodynamics and other vital data to inform timely interventions
• Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Administer medications and IV therapies accurately and according to policy
• Perform thorough assessments, create actionable care plans, and document clearly in the electronic health record
• Educate patients and families on condition, plan of care and discharge needs with clarity and empathy
• Respond to clinical changes and emergencies promptly, providing critical support and escalation as needed
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligible for licensure — compact license accepted where applicable
• BLS required; ACLS preferred or completion encouraged shortly after hire
• Experience caring for higher-acuity or Step-Down patients preferred; new graduates with relevant clinical training are welcome to inquire
• Strong assessment, prioritization and critical thinking skills in acute care settings
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Hemodynamic monitoring and basic ventilator/respiratory principles for intermediate-level patients
• IV medication administration and titration knowledge
• Proficient documentation in electronic health record systems
• Ability to triage, prioritize and act decisively in time-sensitive situations
• Patient and family education with cultural sensitivity and clarity
