Shift Type: Primarily nights, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour nights); rotating schedule with self-scheduling based on seniority; every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday requirement. (Unit also staffs day 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and shorter 8-hour shifts 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM / 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM as operationally needed.)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to adolescents and adults on an acute inpatient unit
• Perform frequent 15-minute rounds and remain actively engaged in direct patient care throughout your shift
• Use strong de-escalation techniques and sound clinical judgment to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapy, social work and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Carefully document assessments and interventions in EPIC to ensure continuity and clarity of care
• Support unit safety protocols including seclusion and mechanical restraint procedures when required
• Float as needed across the hospital to provide 1:1 care or assistance on other units

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in North Dakota)
• BLS certification required
• CPI certification preferred (behavioral safety training appreciated)
• Minimum ~2 years of acute/inpatient psychiatric or state hospital nursing experience preferred
• Comfortable with adolescent and adult psychiatric populations; adolescent experience is a plus
• Experience with de-escalation, strong communication skills, and teamwork
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Able to meet radius/eligibility rules: candidates may not be FT/PT/PRN with CommonSpirit facilities and must meet upfront RTO (within 7 days for a 13-week contract)

Education

• Active RN license in the state of North Dakota
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Acute inpatient psychiatric nursing practices and safety protocols
• De-escalation and behavioral management techniques
• Use of seclusion/mechanical restraints in accordance with policy
• Mental health assessment and crisis intervention
• Collaborative care with mental health techs and interdisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP/oxygen support workflows and when respiratory therapy is involved
• Basic IV familiarity is helpful but not required
