Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; also includes 8-hour options 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; self-scheduling with every other weekend and holiday

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to adolescents and adults experiencing mental health challenges
• Build trusting relationships while supporting patients through depression, anxiety, substance use, and other behavioral health needs
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapists, and social workers to deliver holistic treatment
• Respond to emergencies with calm professionalism using de-escalation techniques and safety protocols
• Conduct 15-minute safety rounds and actively engage with patients rather than remaining at the nurses station
• Float throughout the hospital as needed to support 1:1 observation or additional staffing needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Dakota or compact license
• BLS certification required
• CPI certification preferred
• Acute or inpatient psychiatric experience strongly preferred
• Strong de-escalation and communication skills
• First-time travelers welcome; adolescent experience a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of common psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders
• Ability to remain patient and calm under pressure
• Comfort working on a locked unit with safety protocols and emergency response systems
• Willingness to assist with patient care tasks beyond traditional nursing duties
