Shift Type: 12-hour shifts, nights primarily: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 3 shifts per week (36 guaranteed hours), includes two weekend shifts per pay period; day option documented as 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM in general PCU staffing but this opening is night-focused. May be scheduled as 4 shifts/week by arrangement. Night shift; candidate may float to ICU/MS/Tele as needed.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive cardiac and post-operative care for PCU patients, including those recovering from cath lab procedures and open heart surgery
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret EKGs/dysrhythmias to detect and respond to changes in cardiac status
• Safely administer IV cardiac medications and manage invasive lines, arterial/venous sheath care, and transvenous pacing when required
• Manage complex equipment and therapies such as ventilators (chronic vents), peritoneal dialysis, chest tubes, epidural catheters, and PCA pumps
• Collaborate with hospitalists, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff to develop and execute patient-centered care plans
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR and utilize unit technology (Philips cardiac monitors, Zoll R series, Sigma pumps, Pyxis)
• Participate in unit orientation and competency validation, including successful completion of the required dysrhythmia exam
• Support safe patient transitions by floating to ICU/MS/Tele as needed and maintaining continuity of care

Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Arizona RN license in good standing
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
• Minimum of 1 year of PCU/stepdown experience (posting notes 2 years in some sections; minimum 1 year PCU explicitly required)
• Proven telemetry and EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation skills — must pass dysrhythmia exam (80% within two attempts)
• Experience with IV cardiac medication administration, transvenous pacing, arterial/venous sheath care, chest tube care, chronic ventilator management, and peritoneal dialysis
• Ability to float to ICU/MS/Tele and manage varying acuity; comfortable with fast-paced cardiac surgery care
• Willingness to comply with facility radius and affiliation rules (no recent employment with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities within the past year as specified)

Education

• Active RN license (Arizona); ADN or Diploma acceptable (BSN not required per posting)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and EKG/dysrhythmia interpretation
• IV cardiac medication administration and post-op cardiac care
• Experience with Cerner EMR charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Familiarity with Philips cardiac monitors, Zoll R series, Medtronic pacemakers, and Sigma Spectrum IV pumps
• Competence in invasive monitoring, chest tube and sheath care, and chronic ventilator management
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking in acute cardiac settings
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and teamwork in a surgical/cardiac unit
