Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused preoperative assessments and age-appropriate education to pediatric patients and families
• Prepare patients for surgery by verifying consent, reviewing medical history, and completing pre-op documentation
• Collaborate with surgical, anesthesia, and perioperative teams to ensure smooth handoffs and safe care
• Administer medications and assist with procedures per facility protocols
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and communicate changes in condition
• Support a calm, reassuring environment for children and their families during the preoperative process
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to stay current with best practices

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Missouri license or compact RN eligible
• Experience in preoperative nursing and/or pediatrics preferred
• Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred or recommended
• Comfortable working with children and providing family-centered care
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment skills and developmental understanding
• Knowledge of pre-op procedures, infection control, and perioperative safety practices
• Proficient in medication administration and basic IV/line management
• Ability to educate and comfort pediatric patients and caregivers
• Accurate clinical documentation and attention to detail
