Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients
• Perform focused assessments and document findings clearly in the chart
• Prepare children and families for procedures with calm, age-appropriate education
• Coordinate with surgical and perioperative teams to ensure smooth handoffs
• Administer medications and monitor patient status per protocols
• Support safe, family-centered care and advocate for the child throughout the pre-op process
• Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain high-quality care standards

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts or eligible to obtain one
• Experience in pediatric nursing and/or pre-operative nursing preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS or pediatric certifications preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and communication skills when working with children and families
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric assessment and developmentally appropriate care
• Familiarity with pre-operative processes, medication administration, and monitoring
• Proficient documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in fast-paced perioperative settings
• Attention to detail and a calm approach to anxious patients and families
