Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort
- Perform focused pre-op assessments and document findings clearly and thoroughly
- Prepare patients and families for procedures through age-appropriate education and reassurance
- Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiology, and perioperative staff to coordinate safe care transitions
- Monitor vitals and patient status, escalating concerns promptly to the appropriate provider
- Participate fully in orientation and team huddles to maintain high standards of care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligible for licensure in the state of practice
- Experience or interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
- Comfort working with children and communicating with families in a supportive way
- Strong clinical assessment skills and attention to documentation
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of pre-operative assessment protocols and pediatric care considerations
- Skill in patient/family education and age-appropriate communication
- Familiarity with perioperative workflows and sterile environment principles
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary surgical team
- Competence with electronic medical records and accurate charting
