Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, monitoring recovery closely
• Assess and document patient status, including vital signs, pain, and level of consciousness
• Administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with orders
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the pediatric care team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions with compassion
• Respond quickly to changes in condition and escalate concerns appropriately
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts (or compact/eligible where applicable)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or required depending on facility policy
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical recovery environment
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care principles and safe recovery practices
• Pediatric assessment and comfort measures
• Familiarity with monitoring equipment and post-op medication administration
• Strong critical thinking and rapid assessment skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic clinical setting
• Compassionate family-centered care and clear family education
