Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, ensuring safe recovery from surgery
- Monitor vital signs and recovery status closely, escalating changes in condition promptly
- Administer medications and pain management per protocols with careful documentation
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the care team to coordinate timely patient transitions
- Educate families on recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
- Maintain accurate electronic health records and handoff communication to the next care team
Qualifications
- Current RN license in Missouri (or compact license eligible)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
- Experience in PACU or pediatric nursing preferred
- Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with post-anesthesia care
- Ability to pass facility background and credentialing requirements
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); diploma accepted in many cases
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pediatric physiology
- Skilled in pediatric patient assessment, pain management, and airway monitoring
- Familiarity with EHR documentation and safe medication administration
- Excellent communication and family-centered care approach
- Teamwork mindset and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced perioperative environment
