Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Monitor and assess vital signs and recovery parameters, intervening quickly when needed
• Administer medications and manage pain control in accordance with provider orders and protocols
• Communicate effectively and compassionately with families about recovery progress and care plans
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient status accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to ensure smooth patient transitions
• Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) strongly preferred or required depending on facility policy
• Experience or comfort working in a PACU setting with pediatric patients
• Ability to provide compassionate, family-centered care and communicate clearly with caregivers
• Active immunizations and any facility-required screenings/clearances

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of post-anesthesia recovery processes and PACU protocols
• Pediatric assessment skills, including age-appropriate pain and airway evaluation
• Medication administration and IV management skills
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond to rapidly changing patient conditions
• Accurate electronic health record documentation and handoff communication
• Teamwork and collaboration within a multidisciplinary perioperative environment
