Roles & Responsibilities

• Serve as the OR circulator, coordinating the surgical team and ensuring patient safety throughout procedures
• Prepare the operating room and surgical equipment, verify supplies, and confirm instrumentation for each case
• Monitor patient condition, anesthesia concerns, and surgical site integrity while maintaining sterile technique
• Document perioperative care accurately in Meditech and communicate key information to the care team
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and techs to streamline case flow and improve patient outcomes
• Respond to on-call events and provide competent, calm support during nights and weekend coverage
• Assist with patient positioning, counts, and transfer to and from the OR in adherence with hospital policies
• Mentor and support PRN staff and contribute to a positive, flexible unit culture

Qualifications

• Current RN license for the state of Texas (or eligible for state licensure)
• Minimum 1 year of OR nursing experience (OR circulator experience required)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Ability to fulfill rotating call responsibilities (one night a week minimum; one weekend per 5-week schedule minimum)
• Familiarity with Meditech or other electronic medical records preferred
• Comfortable with common surgical modalities and basic OR equipment
• Strong communication skills, teamwork mindset, and a flexible, caring attitude

Knowledge & Skills

• Meditech EMR experience for documentation and charting
• Proven skills as an OR circulator and perioperative workflow management
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, cautery, video monitors, arthroscopy and positioning equipment
• Ability to assist in a variety of surgical specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, robotics, urology, vascular, cardiovascular, neurosurgery, and thoracic
• Strong patient assessment, infection control, and sterile technique practices
• Comfort with fast-paced environments and on-call responsibilities
