Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate labor and delivery nursing care to birthing patients
- Perform advanced fetal monitoring and interpret tracings using AWHONN AFM standards
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned — coordinate care, lead the team, and prioritize patient safety
- Assist in cesarean sections and care for newborns during and after delivery alongside RT and anesthesia
- Respond to neonatal resuscitation events (NRP) and lead stabilization until transfer if needed
- Accurately document patient care and interventions in Cerner EMR
- Float to MedSurg as needed to support patient flow and unit needs, delivering safe, competent care
Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing (state licensure required)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (Labor & Delivery preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NRP, ACLS, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
- COVID vaccination required per hospital policy
- Demonstrated ability to function as a charge nurse and lead small teams
- Comfortable working independently — role may be sole L&D nurse on site with on-call backup
Education
- Active RN license required
- BSN not required (BSN: No) — associate degree or diploma acceptable
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in Cerner electronic medical record charting
- Strong fetal monitoring interpretation and labor management skills
- Neonatal resuscitation competency and experience working with RT in the delivery setting
- C-section assistance experience and post-operative newborn care
- Ability to float to MedSurg and perform related tasking when unit census requires
- Excellent communication, prioritization, and leadership skills
