Shift Type: Rotating shifts (8-, 10- and 12-hour), Days / Evenings / Nights / Weekends; On-call 0-3 times per month (8-hour nights and 24-hour weekends/holidays). Variable hours per two-week period; no guaranteed hours or shift preference. Assignments may rotate between PACU and ASU.

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality post-anesthesia care in Phase I and Phase II, ensuring patient safety and comfort
• Assess and monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, oxygenation and pain
• Perform incision site assessments and watch for signs of bleeding or complications
• Apply advanced anesthesiology knowledge for immediate postoperative assessment and interventions
• Operate and troubleshoot unit equipment including PCA pumps, Braun IV pumps, monitors and Cryocuff
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and multidisciplinary teams for safe handoffs and care planning
• Educate patients and families about postoperative expectations, discharge instructions and recovery
• Document patient status, interventions and transfers accurately and timely
• Respond quickly to emergencies and provide critical care interventions when needed
• Adhere to infection control practices and facility policy, including required vaccinations and clearances

Qualifications

• Valid State of HI RN License required by the assignment start date
• Minimum 2+ years as a critical care RN (ER or ICU experience may substitute for PACU experience)
• Current BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association required
• PALS from AHA recommended and may be required for some positions
• NIHSS & TNCC and other specialty certifications preferred for specific roles
• Proof of flu vaccination or an approved medical/religious exception required prior to start
• Ability to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays and participate in on-call rotation

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care: Phase I and Phase II patient management
• Pre-operative and postoperative patient care, patient assessment and vital signs monitoring
• Incision site assessment and early recognition of complications
• Advanced knowledge of anesthesiology principles and surgical nursing
• Experience with Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs and Bair PAWS warmers
• Familiarity with HP and Philips bedside monitors
• Strong critical thinking, rapid assessment and acute care decision-making
• Clear communication and collaborative handoff skills
