Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to Neuro Stepdown patients
• Monitor and assess neurological status and intervene promptly when changes occur
• Administer medications and therapies safely, following established protocols
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about condition management, procedures, and discharge plans
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana (or compact license as applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Clinical experience or strong interest in Neuro Stepdown/SDU care is highly desirable
• Ability to safely manage critically ill and medically complex patients
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills
• Willingness to participate in orientation and unit-specific training

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN required; BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Assessment and monitoring of neurological status and neuro-specific interventions
• Familiarity with telemetry and stepdown unit equipment
• Medication administration and IV therapy skills
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond to acute changes in patient condition
• Clear documentation and electronic medical record proficiency
• Collaborative approach to working with physicians, therapists, and support staff
