Registered Nurse - Adolescent Psychiatry
Location: Brattleboro, VT
Start Date: 05-01-2026
End Date: 07-31-2026
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Primarily night coverage, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (overnight). Schedule varies with guaranteed 36 or 48 hours; rotating coverage that includes weekends and must be willing to float to other units and take charge shifts. Night

Roles & Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric setting
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to mental health workers to ensure safe, therapeutic care delivery
- Deliver individual and group therapeutic interventions that promote stabilization and recovery
- Manage care for patients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, including medically assisted withdrawal when indicated
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate treatment plans and adjust interventions
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned, ensuring unit safety, staffing coordination, and clinical leadership
- Document care accurately and timely to support continuity, compliance, and quality improvement
Qualifications
- Active Vermont RN license required at time of submission
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience; recent inpatient psychiatric experience required within the last 3 months (LTC not accepted)
- Recent adolescent psychiatric/behavioral health experience (must be listed on resume with age groups)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Willingness to float to other units and accept charge shifts
- Two supervisory references from the last 2 years of employment
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) preferred; facility will offer onsite CPI if needed
- Experience with co-occurring disorders and medically assisted withdrawal preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong command of the nursing process in acute psychiatric care
- Expertise in adolescent behavioral health and age-appropriate interventions
- Experience with stabilization, recovery education, and co-occurring disorder management
- Ability to lead and supervise mental health workers and coordinate multidisciplinary care
- Crisis prevention and de-escalation skills
- Competence in medication administration and psychiatric nursing documentation
- Comfort running group and individual therapeutic sessions
