Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting — with dignity and respect
• Provide safe transfer and mobility assistance, using proper body mechanics and equipment
• Measure and record vital signs and report any concerning changes to nursing staff promptly
• Support mealtime needs and assist with feeding when necessary
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and communicate effectively with the care team
• Create a warm, reassuring environment that promotes comfort, independence, and quality of life for geriatric residents

Qualifications

• Valid GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — required
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Active, unrestricted ability to work in Maryland (state-specific certification/registration as required)
• Comfort working with older adults and a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with nursing staff and families
• Reliable, punctual, and able to pass background and health screenings per facility policy

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• GNA certification (state-approved) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of basic nursing assistant procedures and infection control practices
• Skillful in safe patient handling and use of mobility aids
• Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
• Familiarity with documenting care in electronic or paper charting systems
• Strong observation skills to notice and report changes in resident condition
• Empathy, patience, and a calm demeanor when supporting residents with cognitive or physical challenges
