Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, safety-focused care to patients in a secure correctional healthcare setting
• Observe and document patient behavior, clinical changes, and interventions accurately and promptly
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations and maintain a therapeutic environment
• Collaborate with nursing staff, mental health clinicians, and facility teams to support patient care plans
• Assist with daily living activities and monitor adherence to treatment plans within scope of practice
• Participate in training and shift handoffs to ensure continuity and quality of care

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in California (required)
• Comfort working in a correctional or institutional mental health environment preferred
• Current basic clinical skills and ability to perform observational documentation accurately
• Willingness to complete the two-week training period and participate in site orientation
• Ability to pass required background checks and facility onboarding processes

Education

• Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician training program or equivalent
• High school diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong observational and documentation skills for clinical reporting
• Effective verbal communication and teamwork within multidisciplinary teams
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain safety
• Familiarity with behavioral health concepts and psychiatric care fundamentals
• Time management and the ability to prioritize patient needs during busy shifts
