Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, safety-focused care to patients in a secure correctional healthcare setting
- Observe and document patient behavior, clinical changes, and interventions accurately and promptly
- Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations and maintain a therapeutic environment
- Collaborate with nursing staff, mental health clinicians, and facility teams to support patient care plans
- Assist with daily living activities and monitor adherence to treatment plans within scope of practice
- Participate in training and shift handoffs to ensure continuity and quality of care
Qualifications
- Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license in California (required)
- Comfort working in a correctional or institutional mental health environment preferred
- Current basic clinical skills and ability to perform observational documentation accurately
- Willingness to complete the two-week training period and participate in site orientation
- Ability to pass required background checks and facility onboarding processes
Education
- Completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician training program or equivalent
- High school diploma or GED
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong observational and documentation skills for clinical reporting
- Effective verbal communication and teamwork within multidisciplinary teams
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to maintain safety
- Familiarity with behavioral health concepts and psychiatric care fundamentals
- Time management and the ability to prioritize patient needs during busy shifts
