Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer and manage IV therapies and infusions safely and competently
- Start and maintain peripheral IVs and access and manage implanted ports
- Operate and monitor infusion pumps and continuous chemotherapy infusions
- Safely prepare, administer, and monitor chemotherapy and biotherapy per policy
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies such as anaphylaxis and extravasation
- Document care accurately in Epic and communicate abnormal lab values to the team
- Provide patient and family education on treatment, side effect management, and aftercare
- Coordinate care with pharmacy, phlebotomy, interdisciplinary supports, and providers
- Follow proper body fluid handling and cytotoxic spill management procedures
- Participate in unit-based quality and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice (active) is expected
- Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience; IV infusion/therapy experience required
- BLS certification required
- ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification preferred; chemo fundamentals card preferred
- Competence with Epic charting is required
- Experience with starting/maintaining IVs, accessing/managing ports, and central line blood draws
- Familiarity with immunotherapy, biotherapy, and cytotoxic therapy handling is a plus
- Strong patient education, care coordination, and telephone triage skills
- Travel experience is not required; seasoned travelers are preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- IV therapy and infusion management best practices
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring (IV push, continuous infusions, oral agents)
- Infusion pump operation and troubleshooting
- Accessing and managing ports and performing central line blood draws
- Recognition and management of infusion-related adverse events and oncologic emergencies
- Epic electronic charting and documentation workflows
- Patient and family education techniques and psychosocial support
- Care coordination across multidisciplinary teams
