Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality postpartum nursing care to mothers, including fundus checks, wound care, Foley bladder assessments, and education on recovery
• Deliver compassionate newborn care and education, from thermoregulation and cord care to discharge teaching and phototherapy monitoring
• Perform IV therapy duties including IV starts, maintenance, and administration of IV antibiotics and blood products
• Administer medications safely, including antihypertensives, magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, insulin drips, and heparin per unit protocols
• Interpret telemetry and pass required EKG competency to monitor and respond to cardiac concerns
• Support lactation and breastfeeding instruction, including use of manual and electric pumps
• Care for complex postpartum scenarios such as C-section recovery, postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and NAS infants
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (IV teams, pharmacy, rapid response, PT, social services) to deliver family-centered care
• Float to similar-acuity units as needed while maintaining continuity and quality of patient care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state where you will practice (must meet licensure requirements)
• Minimum 2 years of postpartum nursing experience (strong like experience considered)
• BLS required; NRP preferred
• IV certification and demonstrated IV start skills
• Labor & Delivery experience and couplet-care familiarity
• EPIC charting experience
• Ability to pass an EKG/telemetry exam prior to start
• Flu vaccine required per facility policy (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
• Previous travel nursing experience is preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Postpartum assessment and procedures including fundus/lochia/perineum care and episiotomy/incision care
• Newborn assessment and care: thermoregulation, metabolic screens, cord care, phototherapy, and NAS management
• Medication administration and titration for obstetric/neonatal medications
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Administration of blood and blood products safely
• Breastfeeding support and use of feeding pumps
• Management of postpartum complications such as hemorrhage and pregnancy-induced hypertension
• Strong communication skills for parent education and discharge teaching
