Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage and care for ventilator-dependent and tracheostomy patients in an LTAC/PCU setting
• Provide advanced ventilator management, perform suctioning (ETT/NT), and execute ventilator weaning and liberation plans
• Perform central and peripheral line care, start and maintain IVs, and safely manage IV drips
• Deliver complex wound care and practice rigorous infection prevention and isolation precautions
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias, and lead emergency response when needed
• Document patient care accurately and comprehensively in Epic
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support decannulation, vent training for home, and individualized patient plans
• Educate patients and families on care plans, weaning progress, and safe transition to lower levels of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (able to practice in North Carolina)
• Minimum 2 years of LTAC/PCU experience required
• Travel nursing experience required — first-timers are not accepted
• BLS certification preferred
• Comfortable managing ventilators, tracheostomies, and multiple IV drips
• Ability to float within scope to like units and meet facility needs
• Willingness to work every other weekend and adhere to facility staffing policies
• No pending license accepted

Education

• Active RN licensure required (degree not specified; ADN or BSN acceptable)

Knowledge & Skills

• Modes of ventilation (CV, CMV, A/C, SIMV, PS, PC, IRV +/- PEEP) and ventilator management
• Suctioning techniques for ETT and NT
• Tracheostomy care, decannulation readiness, and vent training for home
• Weaning from mechanical ventilation and ventilator liberation strategies
• Central line and peripheral line care/management
• Starting and maintaining IVs, managing various IV drips
• Complex wound care, infection prevention, and isolation precautions
• Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Epic charting and clear clinical documentation
• Comfort with LTAC/PCU patient population and typical patient ratios (1:4-5)
