Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in the medical unit, focusing on safety and dignity
• Perform thorough assessments, monitor patient status, and escalate changes promptly
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document per policy
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized care plans
• Deliver patient and family education in a clear, compassionate way
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and comply with facility and regulatory standards
• Support a positive, respectful environment for patients and colleagues in a correctional healthcare setting

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure — California RN license required or eligible
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS and other certifications encouraged
• Clinical experience in medical/surgical or similar patient-care areas preferred
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and able to pass required background and facility clearances
• Available to work the posted schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
• Willingness to complete a two-week orientation at the start of the assignment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN, or nursing diploma)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
• Medication administration and accurate documentation
• Basic wound care, IV therapy familiarity, and monitoring of common medical conditions
• Effective communication and teamwork in fast-paced environments
• Infection control practices and adherence to safety protocols
• Comfort with electronic medical records and facility documentation systems
