Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub and assist during complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, including CABG, EVAR, TEVAR and valve cases
• Prepare, maintain and monitor sterile fields using rigorous aseptic technique
• Reprocess and manage cardiovascular/thoracic instrumentation and ensure high-level disinfectant protocols are followed
• Operate and support specialized equipment such as cell saver, fiber optic systems and electrosurgical units
• Respond efficiently to intraoperative events and call requirements, supporting trauma and emergency situations
• Document equipment use, specimens and case notes accurately in EPIC and follow universal protocol time-outs
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology and perioperative staff to deliver safe, patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• Minimum 5 years total CST experience
• At least 2 years dedicated cardiac and vascular experience
• Minimum 1 year CVOR experience
• Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility
• Current BLS certification required
• Experience with EPIC charting preferred
• Ability to work nights, be flexible with schedule and respond to call as required
• Flu vaccination required per facility policy (medical exemptions allowed)

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
• Current BLS certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub and circulate in General OR, CVOR, Hybrid OR and Trauma settings
• Aseptic technique and universal protocol (time-out) procedure
• Cardiovascular and thoracic instrument reprocessing and equipment documentation
• Familiarity with CVOR procedures such as CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement and TAVR
• Experience with VAD, transplant and endovascular cases
• Proficiency with cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optic equipment and HLD processes
• Crash cart management, specimen handling/labeling and sharps safety
• Strong teamwork, communication and emergency management skills
