Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate neonatal nursing care for NICU patients
- Perform and manage IV insertions, PICC/central line and A-line management
- Operate and monitor ventilators and noninvasive support (CPAP/BiPAP)
- Assist with bedside procedures such as LP support, eye exam assistance, and circumcisions
- Administer and monitor medications and infusions including iron, vitamins, caffeine and antibiotics
- Care for infants using specialized equipment (giraffe beds, feeding pumps, IV pumps)
- Float to MCH, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery or serve as sitter when census requires
- Document patient care accurately and communicate effectively with families and the multidisciplinary team
Qualifications
- Previous travel nurse experience (required)
- Experience working in NICU/neonatal care with common diagnoses such as RDS, prematurity, hypoglycemia and sepsis rule-out
- Strong IV insertion skills and experience with PICC/central line and A-line management
- Comfortable and experienced with CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
- Able to assist with bedside neonatal procedures (LP assistance, eye exams, circumcisions)
- Willingness to float to related units (MCH, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery) and serve as sitter as needed
- Ability to work night shift schedule and adapt to a fast-paced unit
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- NICU and neonatal care best practices
- IV management, PICC/Central line and A-line care
- Airway management and ventilator support
- Experience with CPAP/BiPAP modalities
- Familiarity with giraffe beds, feeding pumps and IV pumps
- Medication administration for neonatal patients (iron, vitamin infusions, caffeine, antibiotics)
- Ability to assist with LPs, eye exams and neonatal circumcisions
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation and family communication skills
