Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive general and trauma surgical care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
• Perform a wide range of operative procedures including cholecystectomy, hernioplasty, aneurysm repairs and vascular access device placement
• Manage acute trauma cases and collaborate in a Level III trauma environment
• Perform and interpret endoscopic procedures including upper and lower endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy
• Insert and manage central lines, chest tubes and PA catheters; oversee ventilation management for surgical patients
• Document all patient care thoroughly and efficiently using EPIC
• Coordinate care with emergency, critical care, nursing and ancillary teams to ensure seamless patient transitions
• Participate in perioperative planning and post-operative management to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• MD or DO (required)
• Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency
• Experience in general and trauma surgery (hospital-based practice)
• Proficiency with EPIC or comparable EMR
• Laser certification (listed as required)
• Demonstrated competence with central line insertion, PA catheter placement, chest tube insertion and ventilation management
• Comfort performing endoscopic procedures (upper/lower endoscopy, colonoscopy)
• Active medical license in the state of practice or ability to obtain licensure promptly; malpractice coverage as required for locum assignments
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain quickly)

Education

• MD or DO and completion of General Surgery residency

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong operative skills across general and trauma surgical procedures
• Trauma assessment and resuscitation protocols appropriate for a Level III trauma center
• Airway and ventilator management in perioperative and critical care settings
• Central venous access and invasive hemodynamic monitoring (PA catheter)
• Endoscopy techniques for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
• Proficient documentation and order entry in EPIC
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and care coordination
• Ability to triage and manage variable surgical case volume driven by ER admissions
