Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments for Veterans
- Conduct interview-based clinical evaluations and document medical histories thoroughly
- Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Read diagnostic results and incorporate findings into clear, evidence-based medical opinions
- Prepare timely, well-documented exam reports, addendums, and medical opinions
- Complete required onboarding and training promptly to begin seeing cases
- Coordinate with administrative staff to schedule and follow up on required documentation
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in good standing (state-specific licensure required)
- Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
- Experience with Compensation & Pension exams or similar medico-legal/assessment work preferred
- Ability to conduct interview-based exams and basic physical assessments (ROM, strength testing)
- Local candidates preferred (within a 50-mile radius of the listed site) or ability to travel as needed
- Own-office option: a private office to see Veterans is required if applying for the provider-office role
- Comfort with documentation, report writing, and completing addendums on a regular basis
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with NP certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical interview and history-taking skills
- Competence in range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Clear, concise medical documentation and report writing
- Ability to interpret diagnostics and synthesize findings into medical opinions
- Familiarity with non-treatment assessments (no prescribing or ongoing care required)
- Professional communication skills for interactions with Veterans and administrative teams
