Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room by assembling and checking surgical instruments and equipment
• Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating instrument needs and maintaining a sterile field
• Perform instrument counts and documentation to support patient safety and regulatory compliance
• Maintain inventory, sterilization records, and ensure surgical supplies are stocked and ready
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, nurses, and sterile processing to keep cases running smoothly
• Support efficient turnover between cases to help the team stay on schedule and patients receive timely care

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or relevant state credential where applicable
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Prior experience in an operating room environment preferred — familiarity with sterile technique and OR flow
• Strong attention to detail, ability to follow protocols, and excellent communication skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist during procedures

Education

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent
• High school diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and OR instrumentation
• Familiarity with surgical case setup, instrument trays, and specialty instrumentation
• Good documentation practices and understanding of instrument counts
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and act proactively
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining calm and focus
