Roles & Responsibilities

Provide high-quality, compassionate patient care in the Step-Down/SDU setting
Perform focused patient assessments and monitor for changes in condition
Administer medications and therapies safely and accurately
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans
Document patient care and clinical changes clearly in the medical record
Educate patients and families about their care, conditions and discharge planning
Escalate clinical concerns to providers promptly to ensure timely interventions
Support unit flow by assisting with admissions, transfers and discharges

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Previous progressive care/step-down unit (SDU) or telemetry experience is highly desirable
Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Clinical monitoring and patient assessment expertise
Telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation experience
Medication administration and IV therapy competence
Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, therapists and support staff
