Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit (SDU)
• Monitor and assess patients' clinical status, recognizing and escalating changes promptly
• Administer medications and therapies safely and accurately according to policy
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the care team to develop and implement care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record
• Assist with procedures and support smooth transitions of care to higher or lower acuity areas

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or compact RN license
• BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred
• Experience caring for step-down, telemetry, or higher-acuity medical-surgical patients preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; patient advocacy focus

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Patient assessment and acuity recognition in a step-down environment
• Medication administration, IV therapy, and safe clinical practice
• Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
• Prioritization, delegation, and time management in acute care settings
• Collaborative care planning and interdisciplinary communication
