Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the Step-Down Unit
• Perform thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans
• Monitor telemetry and respond promptly to changes in clinical condition
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans
• Document care accurately in the patient record and maintain regulatory compliance

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse license (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
• BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred
• Experience caring for intermediate/step-down patients or strong critical care background preferred
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring and recognition of acute changes in patient status
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and function effectively on a busy unit
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Step-Down Unit patient care and telemetry monitoring
• Cardiopulmonary assessment and early recognition of clinical deterioration
• IV therapy, medication administration, and safe documentation practices
• Interdisciplinary collaboration and care coordination
• Patient and family education with a focus on clear, compassionate communication
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and unit-based workflows
