Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor SDU patients continuously, prioritizing safety and early intervention
• Administer medications, treatments, and advanced therapies according to plan of care
• Interpret telemetry and physiologic data, escalating changes to the interdisciplinary team
• Coordinate transitions of care—admissions, transfers, and discharge planning—to keep throughput moving
• Communicate clearly with patients and families to provide education and compassionate support
• Document thoroughly and accurately in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, case management and other disciplines to deliver high-quality care
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based performance goals

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license—Louisiana licensure preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) strongly preferred or required based on unit
• Previous experience in step-down/SDU, telemetry, or critical care settings preferred
• Strong assessment, prioritization and clinical judgment skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Active CPR certification and up-to-date immunizations per facility policy

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with cardiac monitoring and telemetry systems
• Proficient in medication administration and IV pump management
• Skilled in assessment of respiratory, cardiac and neurologic status
• Comfortable using electronic health records for documentation and orders
• Ability to triage and escalate clinical changes appropriately
• Competent in patient and family education on post-acute needs
