Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage PCU patients with vigilance, using bedside monitors and clinical judgment to spot changes early
• Provide skilled care for procedures common to the unit such as emergent chest tube support, midline/PICC management, and bedside bronchoscopy assistance
• Respond rapidly in emergencies and participate in ACLS/BLS protocols when needed
• Administer medications and treatments safely while documenting thoroughly in the EMR
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and discharge planning
• Maintain patient safety and comfort using equipment like glucometers, dopplers and Hoyer lifts
• Support unit staffing needs by covering day/night shifts and participating in call rotations

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in Texas preferred)
• Minimum 1 year of recent clinical nursing experience (PCU/telemetry or similar highly regarded)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) competency (required)
• Preferred certifications: CATN, TCAR, or TCCN — candidates with these will be prioritized
• Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends and call; strong teamwork and communication skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with cardiac/bedside monitors and telemetry-based patient monitoring
• Experience with common PCU equipment: glucometers, dopplers, standing scales, wheelchairs and Hoyer lifts
• Comfortable assisting with emergent procedures and line management (PICC/midline)
• Solid EMR documentation skills and accurate medication administration
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, and teamwork abilities in a 4:1 patient ratio environment
