Roles & Responsibilities

Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively and ensure readiness for procedures
Perform focused nursing assessments and document findings accurately
Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff to streamline care
Prepare patients and families with clear, compassionate education about the procedure
Verify consents, allergies, and pre-op checklists to promote patient safety
Maintain meticulous EHR documentation and handoffs to perioperative teams
Participate in orientation and team huddles to support continuous improvement

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri required
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
Experience or coursework in pediatric and pre-operative nursing preferred
Strong communication skills for interacting with young patients and families
Ability to complete facility orientation and competency requirements

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Familiarity with pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication
Knowledge of pre-operative protocols and surgical safety practices
Comfortable with EHR documentation and electronic charting
Skill in patient/family education and anxiety-reduction techniques
Team-oriented mindset with strong prioritization and time management
