Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and surgical instrumentation for pediatric procedures
• Assist surgeons and the OR team during cases by passing instruments and anticipating needs
• Perform instrument counts and document supplies to ensure patient safety
• Assist with room turnover and cleaning between cases to maintain efficient workflow
• Adhere to infection control protocols and hospital policies for a safe surgical environment
• Communicate clearly with nurses, surgeons, and support staff to coordinate care
• Participate in orientation and follow facility-specific procedures to support high-quality care

Qualifications

• Surgical technologist experience in the operating room (pediatric experience a plus)
• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent training
• Certification such as a CST is preferred; facility will guide credentialing requirements
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain
• Ability to work per diem schedule and adapt to variable case times
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and commitment to patient safety

Education

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Aseptic technique and sterile field management
• Familiarity with surgical instruments, sterile setup, and instrument handling
• Knowledge of OR counts, documentation, and basic perioperative procedures
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and work efficiently under pressure
• Good communication skills and collaborative teamwork in a fast-paced environment
• Comfort working with pediatric patients and family-centered care practices
