Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
• Perform thorough patient assessments and monitor vital signs, responding promptly to changes
• Administer medications, manage infusions, and operate advanced clinical equipment safely
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—physicians, respiratory therapists, and others—to develop and execute care plans
• Document care accurately in the medical record and ensure clear handoffs at shift change
• Educate and support families about their child’s condition and care plan with empathy and clarity
• Participate in unit initiatives to improve patient outcomes and promote a culture of safety

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to practice in Massachusetts preferred)
• Experience or interest in pediatric critical care (PICU) nursing
• Current BLS; PALS and ACLS encouraged or required per unit policy
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with the ability to prioritize in urgent situations
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
• Willingness to complete required orientation prior to independent practice

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accepted
• BSN preferred where available; ongoing education and specialty certifications encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in pediatric assessment and monitoring of critically ill children
• Familiarity with ventilator management and advanced cardiac/respiratory support
• Proficient documentation and electronic medical record use
• Excellent communication with families and clinical teams
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations
