Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgery with attention to comfort, safety, and clear communication
• Perform focused pre-operative assessments and document findings accurately
• Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiology, and families to coordinate safe handoffs
• Provide age-appropriate education and reassurance to children and caregivers
• Monitor and report any changes in patient status prior to procedure start
• Maintain a safe, clean, and child-friendly pre-op environment

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Experience or interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
• BLS required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong communication skills with children and families
• Ability to work flexible short shifts and adapt to variable schedules
• Proof of required immunizations and background checks per facility policy

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pre-operative assessment and pediatric physiology
• Skilled in patient-centered communication and family education
• Familiarity with infection control and procedural safety standards
• Basic documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) proficiency
• Ability to triage and escalate clinical concerns promptly
