Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate postoperative care to pediatric patients in the PACU
Monitor vital signs and patient status, escalating concerns promptly
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and families for seamless transitions
Deliver family-centered education and discharge instructions
Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain high standards of care

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri
Experience or training in PACU and pediatric nursing preferred
BLS required; PALS highly recommended or preferred
Comfortable with postoperative assessment, pain management, and airway monitoring
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting
Ability to complete required orientation prior to clinical assignment

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Completion of unit-specific orientation prior to clinical practice

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric postoperative assessment and monitoring
PACU protocols, recovery, and discharge criteria
IV therapy, medication administration, and pain management
Airway assessment and basic airway management principles
Electronic health record documentation
Team-based handoffs and interdisciplinary communication
