Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor pediatric patients closely in the post-anesthesia care unit and respond quickly to changes
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, with meticulous attention to pediatric dosing and safety
• Assess pain, consciousness, airway and vital signs, and document findings clearly and promptly
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and interdisciplinary team members to ensure smooth handoffs
• Provide compassionate education and reassurance to families during the recovery process
• Maintain strict infection control and safety standards to protect vulnerable pediatric patients
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to stay current with PACU best practices

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (ability to obtain Missouri licensure if not already licensed)
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing preferred
• Current BLS required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfortable with pediatric airway management, monitoring, and post-anesthesia assessments
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a perioperative team
• Professional, reliable, and committed to compassionate pediatric care

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia care principles and pediatric recovery protocols
• Skill in pediatric vital sign interpretation and pain assessment
• Familiarity with common PACU equipment and monitoring devices
• Ability to perform focused assessments and initiate appropriate interventions
• Patient and family-centered communication, especially for anxious caregivers
• Good documentation practices and attention to detail
