Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients coming out of surgery
• Closely monitor vital signs and level of consciousness, intervening quickly when needed
• Administer medications and pain management per orders and institutional protocols
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of patient status and interventions
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to ensure safe handoffs
• Educate families on post-operative care and discharge instructions in approachable language
• Participate in orientation and unit-based training to promote consistent, high-quality care

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Massachusetts (or eligibility to obtain)
• Recent PACU experience, ideally with pediatric patients
• Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Demonstrated ability to assess and manage post-anesthesia pediatric patients
• Comfort with medication administration, airway support, and IV management
• Ability to pass required background checks and immunization/employment health screening

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment and monitoring skills
• Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pain management
• Familiarity with airway management and basic resuscitation in children
• IV therapy, medication administration, and documentation best practices
• Effective communication with families and interdisciplinary teams
• Comfortable using electronic health records and unit-based documentation systems
