Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients in the post-anesthesia care unit to ensure safe recovery after surgery
• Administer medications and manage pain control per protocols and physician orders
• Provide vigilant airway and hemodynamic management during the immediate postoperative period
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the interdisciplinary team about patient status
• Educate patients and families on post-procedure care and discharge instructions with empathy and clarity
• Document care accurately in the medical record and participate in handoffs to the next level of care
• Respond quickly to emergencies and help implement escalation protocols when needed

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia care (experience preferred given PACU specialty)
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or available per facility policy
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient monitoring skills
• Ability to work 10.5-hour shifts and function well in a fast-paced perioperative environment

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) required; BSN preferred where applicable

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia recovery assessment and monitoring
• Airway management and basic ventilatory support knowledge
• IV medication administration and titration experience
• Pain management strategies and multimodal analgesia principles
• Clear interdisciplinary communication and patient/family education
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and clinical documentation
