Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess post-anesthesia patients closely to ensure safe recovery
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered and document accurately
• Manage airway, pain control, and hemodynamic stability in the PACU
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and interdisciplinary team members for seamless transitions
• Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education during recovery
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and handoffs
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate per protocol
• Ensure a safe, clean and compliant PACU environment

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — must be eligible to practice in Louisiana
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• ACLS and/or PALS preferred or available upon hire depending on unit needs
• Previous PACU or post-anesthesia/OR experience preferred
• Strong critical thinking, assessment and patient monitoring skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical recovery setting

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of post-anesthesia protocols and patient recovery processes
• Proficiency with IV therapy, medication administration, and monitoring equipment
• Skilled in airway management and basic emergency interventions
• Comfortable charting in electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients safely
