Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality neuro stepdown care to adult patients
• Perform frequent neurologic assessments and monitor telemetry/clinical trends
• Recognize and respond rapidly to patient changes, initiating appropriate interventions
• Administer medications and manage IV/drip therapies safely and accurately
• Collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Document patient status, interventions and outcomes clearly and timely in the EHR
• Educate patients and families about conditions, care plans and discharge instructions
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and maintain regulatory standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana or ability to obtain state licensure prior to start
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
• Prior experience in Neuro Stepdown, SDU, or similar acute/stepdown setting preferred
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring, neurologic assessments, and critical thinking in time-sensitive situations
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Current immunizations and ability to pass facility background and health screenings

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro-focused assessment skills (GCS, pupillary checks, focal deficits)
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV therapy, medication administration and infusion pump management
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation and clinical workflows
• Prioritization, rapid decision-making and strong situational awareness
• Patient/family education and bedside teaching
